Schneider-Toshiba Altivar 61 & 71 Drives Obtain SEMI F47 Certification

PQ Star Compliance Engineer Baskar Vairamohan and Technician Dennis Turner ready drive for Voltage Sag Testing

EPRI 's ASD and Motor Test Lab has the unique capability to characterize drive systems to evaluate drive systems to various power quality standards including SEMI F47, all modes of the New SEMI F47-0706 (to be released July 2006) and IEC 61000-4-34.

Recently, EPRI worked closely with Schneider Toshiba Inverter SAS to test a series of Altivar 61 and Altivar 71 drives to the SEMI F47 Standard. EPRI conducted tests on a series of drives ranging from 3 to 150 horsepower.

Example Response of 100hp 480Vac Altivar 61 Drive to 50% Vab, 12 Cycle Voltage Sag

An example response of one of the Altivar drives to the SEMI F47 test is shown on the left.   The drive speed dropped from 1797 rpm down to 1665 rpm as a result of the votlage sag (93% of nominal speed).  The speed recovered back to the 1797 rpm within 1 second. This is considered a very good voltage sag response for a variable frequency drive.

The drives were able to pass the SEMI F47 testing requirements when configured properly.  As noted in the table to the right, one must configure parameters such as  "Input Phase Loss", "Catch on the Fly", and Undervoltage Timeout (UV Timeout). The dynamic torque profile was test to follow the "High Torque A" and the default slip compensation was set to 100%.

ELIN >pDRIVE< MX ECO and MX PRO are Covered Under This Certification

Various Toshiba Models Such as the VFAS, VFPS, and VT130 series are included as well

The development of this drive was done as a team effort between Schneider-Toshiba, Toshiba-Japan, Toshiba-US, and Elin (VA TECH). Although each brand offers distinct and unique features and options, common hardware and software pertinent to SEMI-F47 allows this certification to apply to units in all four companies
